English woman defends her homeA 49-Year-old grandmother has defended her house and herself with a crossbow in England. It was about 9 p.m. on 17 April in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. Three masked men, armed with a machete and a hammer, burst into Anji Rhys’ home. A man with the machete tried to grab the crossbow after she snatched it off the wall. She was able to turn and fire it into his abdomen.

It is not easy to obtain firearms in England. Any firearms obtained are supposed to be locked up. Self-defense is not considered a legitimate reason to own a firearm. Crossbows are still legal. They can be ordered through the mail. They are becoming an alternative for people who wish to defend their homes.

From dailymail.co.uk:

乐动体育APP"I ran and grabbed my crossbow and had a little tussle with a second man who had a machete. He went to grab it , but I managed to spin and shoot him in the belly with it at close range. He shouted ‘You f****** bitch, you shot me.’ At that point he fell on me, cutting my hand with the machete. I tried to throw the cross bow through the window to raise the alarm but the curtains caught it like a goalie net.

"Asked why she kept the Redback Pistol crossbow, she said: ‘It is a home defence weapon. I am a prepper I believe you should hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I wish I had another four cross bows. It is a man stopper. It is the most powerful pistol cross bow.

“I had it loaded. I practice with it in my garden, which is 130 feet long. The bolt I shot him with was dirty because I had been using it. It was six inches long and disappeared into him.”

"She went on: ‘I am still patrolling the house. The police have taken my crossbow. I have got a knife in my pocket now.' "

“I am on three courses of medication — for post traumatic stress, sleeping and anti-depressants.”
乐动体育APPMs Rhys said: “The police said quietly ‘well done.’ Another said: ‘F….good job.’ “

乐动体育APPThe Redback Pistol crossbow was taken as evidence, but was not confiscated. The Redback is advertised as delivering 235 feet per second velocity. The Redback is advertised at about $63 with three bolts…

The wounding mechanism is different with a bolt than with a bullet. The target bolts supplied with the Redback merely have a field point. They only punch a hole in flesh. It can be dangerous, but the point mostly pushes flesh aside while making a small hole.

乐动体育APPThe most effective points for bolts or arrows are broadheads. They do not simply poke a hole, pushing aside most tissue. They slice their way inside, cutting a broader wound with razor edges. This is how arrows can be efficient killers of big game… The damage done is likely to be quadrupled, because cutting is a far more efficient use of energy than pushing a point through flesh. Broadheads would create a more debilitating wound and would better serve the purpose of home defense.

In the United States, the Second Amendment of the Constitution guarantees that U.S. citizens do not need to rely on such primitive weapons for home defense. Commonly available pistols with magazine capacities of 15-18 rounds can deliver energies of  200-700 foot-pounds with each shot. Modern sporting rifles offer standard magazine capacities of 30 rounds with cartridges delivering energies of 1250 foot-pounds with each shot. The common 12 gauge shotgun delivers about 1500 foot-pounds per shot. The popular .308 and .30-06 hunting rifles deliver 2500-2900 foot pounds. The extra energy is sufficient to penetrate flesh, break large bones, and create massive wounds. There is sufficient energy to penetrate heavy clothing and barriers such as automobile windshields, walls, and primitive shields or armor.

乐动体育APPIf Ms. Rhys had a simple American or British revolver, her shot would likely have had more effect than the pistol crossbow. In addition, she would have had five more shots to deal with the other home invaders.

In Australia, Ms. Rhys would not be allowed the crossbow. Crossbows have been outlawed. They are considered prohibited weapons, and may only be owned with a special permit from the chief of police. It is easier to obtain a permit for a firearm than for a crossbow. Self-defense is not considered a legal reason to apply for a permit for the crossbow or for a firearm.

Editors Note: England may be finally learning something from her younger cousins, the Americans, that self-defense is a natural right of citizens and that a man or woman’s home is his or her's castle, just as the Queen is protected at Windsor Palace and Pope Francis by the Swiss Guards in the Vatican. So let’s hope the British do not ban crossbows like the neutered Australians.— MAF

Thankfully crowsbows, but not Bowie knives!

乐动体育APPIt is still a highly guarded state secrets but somehow it was published: One can still have crossbows in England but only with target arrows, not hunting ones. Great piece.

Homicides rising in England and Wales

乐动体育APPMurder and Killing cases on rise again, BBC, July 19, 2018

乐动体育APPThe number of killings and murders in England and Wales has increased for the fourth year running. Excluding terror attacks, there were 701 homicides in the 12 months to the end of March, 74 more than the previous year - a rise of 12%. Homicide covers cases of murder, manslaughter, corporate manslaughter and infanticide. The data also showed knife crime was up 16%.

Homicides England Wales

Overall, crimes recorded by police went up 11%, the figures suggested. The start of 2018 was characterised by what appeared to be regular killings on the streets of London. Between January and March, the BBC recorded 46 killings in the city - some from gunshot wounds but most from stabbings. Among those killed were a handful of teenagers.— BBC
乐动体育APP Paradoxically, the brief article also included the contradictory statements: “However, the separate Crime Survey for England and Wales, which is based on people's experiences of crime, suggested there was no change in overall crime levels. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said homicide remained rare and tended to take place in London and other cities.”

Moreover, the graph above does not tell the whole story. They arbitrarily began recording in 2008 when crime had more or less stabilized and then temporarily decreased. Violent crime in the form of homicide and attempted murder in England and Wales actually rose immediately after the Firearm Act of 1988 and even more so after the draconian Firearm Act of 1997. The violent crime rate decreased only 5 years later. It began to rise again in 2015 and is still rising! Therefore, in this graph the Brits chose to illustrate only a convenient snapshot of selective years.

乐动体育APPWho do the Brits think they are fooling with such nonsense? How two contradictory “facts” can both be true at the same time is not explained. As related elsewhere, the Brits continue to confabulate to explain their increasing crime rate despite draconian gun and knife controls! It is a shame that Great Britain, the cradle of individual freedom, has fallen this low in terms of perpetuating obfuscation and overt mendacity for political purposes. — MAF

Toronto becoming another London?

The shooting happened on Saturday just before 8pm local time (12am GMT). Toronto

Gun violence in Canada's largest city appears to be taking place at a higher rate than normal. So far this year, 29 people have been killed in 208 separate shootings. Gun deaths are up 50% from the same time as last year, according to police statistics. The two men killed on Saturday were identified as Jahvante Smart, 21, and Ernest Modekwe, 28, both of whom were from Toronto... Read the rest at the BBC feeds at the home page.

FBI confirms the facts...

乐动体育APP“Armed and unarmed citizens engaged the shooter in 10 incidents. They safely and successfully ended the shootings in eight of those incidents. Their selfless actions likely saved many lives. The enhanced threat posed by active shooters and the swiftness with which active shooter incidents unfold support the importance of preparation by law enforcement officers and citizens alike.”

Those are the final lines in the conclusion of the FBI’s Active Shooter Incidents in the United States in 2016 and 2017. The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. Gang and drug-related shootings are excluded. “The active aspect of the definition inherently implies that both law enforcement personnel and citizens have the potential to affect the outcome of the event based upon their responses to the situation.”

乐动体育APPTen active shooters were confronted by citizens. In four incidents, the responding citizens were unarmed; these heroes include school staff, the shooter’s girlfriend, and a man who intentionally struck the shooter with his car. Six shooters were confronted by armed citizens. Four shooters were stopped by lawfully armed citizens. One citizen was wounded as he confronted the shooter. “In one incident, a citizen possessing a valid firearms permit exchanged gunfire with the shooter, causing the shooter to flee to another scene and continue shooting.” Unsurprisingly, it seems that these criminal cowards preferred targets incapable of defending themselves… The FBI’s latest report affirms that ability. —NRA-ILA, May 11, 2018.
